
It is possible to take either a diploma or degree course to qualify as a nurse. Education is provided
by Nursing Colleges in local hospital and community settings. Full time diploma courses last 3 1/2 years.
Degree courses last 4 years.

i. Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years respectively.
ii. Minimum education:
a) +2 passed with any subjects with aggregate of 40% marks
b) Those who have cleared 10+2 vocational ANM course (revised after 2001) from the school
recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
iii. Admission of students shall be once in a year.
iv. Students shall be medically fit.
Basic B.Sc. (Nursing)
i. The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years and 35 years respectively.
ii. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of: Higher Secondary school certificate
Examination (12 years course),
Or
Senior School certificate Examination (10+2), pre-degree Examination (10+2)
Or
An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university With
Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English with minimum of 45% aggregate marks (PCBE).
Entrance/Selection test:
Selection of the candidates should be based on the merit of the entrance examination held by
University or competent authority.
Nursing Degree Vs Nursing Diploma:
It is better to obtain a Nursing Degree than a Nursing Diploma because most of the overseas hospitals
are giving more preference for a degree. Also the initial salary for degree is better than diploma. Above
all in order to continue further education, a degree is more advantageous than a diploma.
